In Henningsvær you will find the Henningsvær Guesthouse which was built in 1892.
The guesthouse is located on the square in the center of beautiful Henningsvær with a short distance to literally everything that is in Henningsvær.
Our 7 rooms are of good size and are newly renovated in 2019. Here we have very good quality-beds and also office desk if you need some work. Being able to live in the middle of Henningsvær and just stroll along the piers is an experience that can only be described as "peace of mind" or being able to walk between good eating places and local bars and meet us locals who live here in Henningsvær.
On the ground floor of Henningsvær Guesthouse you will find Lofoten Arctic's Café. Here you can stop by for a hot coffee, enjoy good pastries and cakes.
We also offer a selection of good lunch dishes made with local products and local food traditions, and preferably from raw materials just outside the door. In the same room you can get information about what you can experience in Henningsvær and Lofoten in our visit center Visit Henningsvær and you can book an experience before the coffee gets cold!
THE NAME KNUSARN
One of the stories the undersigned got served over a glass of beer just at Knusarn, a few years ago was the following:
A local sailor, who was supposedly called Albert "Pelly" Jørgensen was active during the war. The sailor experienced several times being bombed. He also stayed for long periods in Scotland during the war, where he also founded family and had children. But eventually the relationship ended, and he went home to Henningsvær.
At that time, it was quite normal for sailors to supplement their own language with some English words or phrases. Albert sat down with some nephews in the hospits and drank beer. Full of heartace and the needs for an explanation of the break in Scotland, he concluded and lifted the glass:
"This is my Heartbreaker".
He explained to the friends that the beer was probably the reason why the heart was broken. But "Heart Crusher" was not included in the vocabulary, neither for the fishermen nor the locals in Henningsvær. And taking a "heart break" in the hospits became the name Knusarn.
